LOAVES AND FISHES

Loaves and Fishes is an outreach program that serves children in our community. Our mission is to provide food for children who may not have enough to eat on the weekends and holidays throughout the school year.  We serve children in grades PreK through sixth grades.

The women from the Wednesday Women’s Bible Study class that meets at the Ozona United Methodist Church oversee this outreach program. Ozona has a high percentage of elementary age children who fall below the poverty line, which means that many are at risk for hunger. School personnel confirm that there are children in our community that come to school on Monday mornings with empty stomachs and hunger headaches.

We provide kids with food that can be easily prepared for snacks and meals. We can feed children for weekends and holidays during the school year for about $100 per child. We pack the food in bags on Wednesdays before our Bible study class. We deliver the food to the school on Thursdays. The kids get the bags on Friday to take home for the weekend.

If you donated to the Loaves and Fishes program this year, we want to thank you for your support. This outreach program is solely funded by donations. If you wish to send a donation, please make your check to: OUMC-Loaves and Fishes. Please mail your check to OUMC, P.O. Box 983, Ozona, TX 76943. Your donation will be tax deductable.

WESLEY NURSE

The Wesley Nurse program spans 80 sites throughout South Texas and is Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc.'s largest geographic outreach program.

The professional practice of the Wesley Nurse is not limited to the physical dimension of medical needs; rather, it includes a mind, body, and spirit holistic approach. A key component Wesley Nurses undertake in their communities is providing health education, health promotion, and facilitation of resources. We assist individuals and communities in achieving improved health and wellness through self-empowerment and access to healthcare resource information.

While the Wesley Nurse program is a component of Methodist Healthcare Ministries' ecumenical outreach and located within churches, it does not teach a particular set of denominational beliefs. All Wesley Nurse programs are free, and all members of the community are welcome. Programs are offered to groups or on an individual basis.
